Lake
Michigan is the only Great Lake that can be found entirely in the
U.S., which perhaps explains why many American freshwater anglers
frequent the place every year. Fish can be found aplenty in Lake
Michigan almost every month, but anglers may want to keep track of
fishing seasons if they have a specific catch in mind. For example,
the famous Winter-run
steelheads
are at their peak from late October to mid-March.
Amateur
anglers may have better luck with other fish types, though. Salmons
like Coho
and Chinooks,
for example, are abundant during most of the year, but are best
caught from March to October. Lake
trout
are just as plentiful, but they prefer the deeper waters of Lakes
Huron and Erie. Professional and amateur anglers alike would best be
working with Lake Michigan fishing charters to find the best spots to
catch these deep water fish. Lake trout are abundant from mid-June to
August, and from October to November.
If
these common fish varieties aren’t enough of a challenge, anglers
can put their skills to the test by catching smallmouth
bass,
which are generally 10 to 16 inches long. The months of June to
September are considered to be their peak season.
